I feel honoured to have photographed such a talented singer/songwriter. Michael George has just signed with "RomanLine Productions" entertainment company. Michael who first came to Cliff Fabri's (Music manager who discovered Avril Lavigne and managed her career until the release of her debut album "Let Go". Fabri is currently the manager of Canadian singer Samantha Moore. He is also the president of RomanLine Productions) attention when he heard Michael's songs "Here's To Love" and "The Miracle". Michael will be collaborating again with RomanLine Artist Samantha Moore. In 2006, Michael won 9 international songwriting awards. The GRAND PRIZE of the 2006 Dallas Songwriting Competition (Here's To Love), as well as two 1st Place Awards in the Singer/Songwriter categories. Michael won four 1st Place Awards in the MUSIC AID International Music Awards 2006, as well as winning the United We Roll International Songwriting Compeition.

DERELICT

Justin has been a fine art photographer for several years capturing industrial landscapes. Born in Toronto, he studies Biology and Commerce at Queen's University while seeking greater gallery representation.

At Queen's he serves as the co-chair of the Queen's Photographic Society, and Senior Photo Editor for the year book. Images from his collections have been included in several publications.

In the past, Justin has explored a wide variety of media including ink, pencil, and acrylics. However, photography has become his medium of choice offering still beauty in the manufactured world. He has carried his camera across the globe from pristine New Zealand to the disease and decay inner city of Kingston, Jamaica during humanitarian missions.

Justin was recently honoured by the Queen's Arts Network with the Best Photography award and the Principal Karen Hitchcock award for Best Emerging Artist. Previous gallery shows included Organic Abstractions at the Union Gallery (Kingston, ON) and the Cedar Ridge Gallery (Toronto, ON).

He shoots with both film and digital media with preference towards medium format.

What To Wear!

Lately we have been having a lot of inquiries of what to wear to your portrait session. First of all, it really depends on what the portraits are going to be used for? Whether they will be used for your marketing materials for your business or a fine portrait to hang and decorate your living room.

The goal of any fine portrait ... is to direct the viewer's attention to the face or faces in the portrait. Simple long-sleeved garments in medium to dark tones of brown, rust, burgundy, green, or blue are pleasing choices when photographed against a dark background.

Proper clothing allows the face to dominate the portrait. All other elements should be secondary.

Bold stripes, plaids, checks and prints are confusing and do not photograph well. Especially bright colours, such as red and orange, will completely overpower the face and ruin a portrait.

Light coloured clothing calls attention to itself and away from the face. Avoid light colours that approximate flesh tones such as beige, tan, peach, pink, white, and yellow. They overpower the face, make the subject appear unusually pale, and add bulk to the subject. Darker shades are more flattering and slimming.

Couples or small groups should choose simple garments within the same tonal ranges. Light and dark tones together create visual confusion, as one subject comes forward and the other recedes.

Light colours are appropriate against a white or pastel background or ........with a dark background when an interpretive "pictorial" study is planned. Clothing in medium shades compliment portraits made in outdoor environments.

Designing For Impact
The placement of portraits in relation to the room's furnishings is critical when their purpose is to create a dramatic decorative focal point. Whether the artwork is the central component of a room concept or an isolated accessory, all of the elements of design - style, colour, size, and framing - must work together to complete the creative statement.

Selecting A Style
The decorative intent of the room in which you plan to display portraiture will set the design tone for the portrait and help in your selection of clothing and setting.

Achieving Colour Harmony
The portrait's overall colour theme should blend with or complement the room's colour palette. Carefully chosen clothing and background elements can add richness to the room's colour scheme.

Determining Size
An appropriately sized portrait is one that dominates the space in which it is hung, but does not appear to crowd that space. When planning an individual portrait or collection of images to be hung together, be sure to establish whether the space lends itself better to a vertical or horizontals composition.Portraits are appropriate as focal points in both public and private rooms, so display them where you, your family and your guests can enjoy them every day.

Choosing The Frame
Truly the "finishing touch"of portraiture, framing must be both complementary to the image - so as not to distract the viewer's attention from the subject matter - and an appropriate accent for the room's furnishings.

Designing with Creativity
Today's portrait photographers possess a wealth of artistic techniques that range from softening edges and adding text to creating photographic watercolours and colour-tinted images. With each new technique comes a new opportunity for decorative creativity.

Choosing Subject Matter
Portrait images communicate how we feel about ourselves, our world, and those closest to us. Their subject matter and settings are limited only by imagination: children as they grow, family times or events, artistic personal statements - all are appropriate subjects for decorative portraiture.Because they reveal something about the character or the interests of the individuals who work there, portraits personalize the decor of office environments as well as enhance the enjoyment of those who work or visit there.

Have a planning session and talk to your photographer or design consultant to explore your ideas and discuss creative posibilities.
